Strengthening Trade and Investment: Opportunities for Manufacturing Collaboration Between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica

As a leading manufacturing company in Trinidad and Tobago, we are excited to share our insights on the recent TTMA Trade Mission to Jamaica, which took place from May 13 to May 16, 2025. This initiative aimed to foster stronger trade and investment ties between our nations, and we believe it presents significant opportunities for manufacturers like us.

Expanding Market Reach

The trade mission kicked off with a ‘Doing Business With Jamaica’ seminar at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston. Our participation in this seminar allowed us to explore the vast potential within the Jamaican market. With Jamaica’s strategic location and modern infrastructure, we see the opportunity to expand our market reach and enhance our distribution capabilities across the Caribbean.

Benefits of Manufacturing in Trinidad and Tobago

During the seminar, Permanent Secretary Sancia Bennett Templer emphasized Jamaica’s investment-friendly environment, and we couldn’t agree more. However, we’d like to highlight some key benefits of manufacturing in Trinidad and Tobago that can complement Jamaica’s strengths:
  • Robust Industrial Base: Trinidad and Tobago has a well-established manufacturing sector, known for its diverse range of products. This foundation allows for innovation and collaboration with Jamaican manufacturers.
  • Energy Advantage: Our country boasts a competitive energy sector, providing manufacturers with lower operational costs. This advantage is crucial for production efficiency and profitability.
  • Skilled Workforce: We pride ourselves on having a skilled and adaptable workforce. Our professionals are not only trained in manufacturing processes but are also capable of meeting the evolving demands of the market.
  • Access to International Markets: With numerous trade agreements, Trinidad’s manufacturers can easily access international markets, making it an ideal hub for companies aiming to export to North America, Europe, and beyond.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Dr. Ramesh Ramdeen, CEO of TTMA, highlighted the importance of reciprocal trade. As we seek to introduce our products to Jamaica, we also recognize the potential for Jamaican goods to thrive in the Trinidad market. Our call to action is clear: let’s deepen our bilateral relationships. By collaborating, we can leverage each other’s strengths—Jamaica’s connectivity and talent with Trinidad’s industrial capabilities.

Invitation to Collaborate

As we concluded our trade mission activities in Kingston and Montego Bay, we invite Jamaican manufacturers to consider Trinidad and Tobago as a strategic partner. We look forward to welcoming Jamaican products into our market and invite them to participate in our upcoming Trinidad & Tobago International Trade and Investment Convention (TIC) this July. This event will gather over 30 countries and 350 exhibiting companies, providing a platform for networking and collaboration.

Conclusion

The TTMA Trade Mission has reaffirmed our commitment to collaboration and growth within the region. By working together, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica can not only enhance bilateral trade but also pave the way for a prosperous future in manufacturing. Let’s seize this moment to innovate, invest, and expand our horizons!
